I blinked a few times as we slowed down, stopping at a pet adoption place, “I love dogs,” I grinned up at him before getting down on my knees cooing at the little French Bulldog puppy as it waddled its way over to me. It was so adorable, I almost wanted to cry. The puppy licked my hand through the playpen and I couldn’t help but giggle, “I love animals in general but especially dogs. He’s so cute!”

The puppy was tan, pudgy, and just all around cute. The puppy jumped around and spun around in a circle trying to get my attention. I was pretty certain he was telling me that he liked me.

“Ya know, if I could have a familiar, it would be a puppy. Forget the stereotype of witches having a cat for a familiar.” I stood up and turned to Aidoneus, flashing him a smile. The more time that I spent around him the more confident I felt. It was becoming easier and easier to talk to him without going into a panic attack.

To think, this was only the second time we’d been around each other. So far, he was the perfect guy. He could cook, supposedly very well, loved dogs, and was incredibly handsome. I didn’t want to get my hopes up with some stranger though. I’d done that before and got my heart severely broken.

“Do you have any pets?”

Aidoneus watched me for a minute, smiling as he reached out and pet one of the older dogs, watching as it stared at him with sad eyes.

"I do," he said as he pet the older Rottweiler. "He's a bit jealous though and a rather large dog."

“Ohhh, big dogs are fun.” I watched as his interaction with the Rottie and the way they just vibed together was perfect. It was obvious that the Rottweiler liked him. Naturally, it was safe to assume his dog was probably a Rottweiler, right?

“If your dog is jealous, then we should probably go. That Rottie looks like he wants to be your new son,” I lightly teased and bent down one more time petting the little French Bulldog’s nose, “Bye bye Freckles.”

I might have already named the Frenchie I’d been playing with, but it was fine. I had every intention of coming back here to adopt the little guy. I turned to Aidoneus and smiled, ”I’m ready to go if you are, and ready for your next question.”

I looked at the sign and made a mental note of where it was located to come back. Hopefully, Freckles was still there though. I looked back at Aidoneus who was also staring at the Rottweiler as if he were contemplating adopting him as well. I could almost see the indecision in his eyes before he sighed. I covered my mouth to cover the twitch of a smile that hit my face from just watching him.

"Sure, thing, " He shoved his hands in his pockets, glancing back at the dog one last time. "Fire away when you're ready?"

I smiled, I could tell he really didn’t want to leave the Rottweiler.
